Man, I rode my single speed bike (The SE lager) for the 1st time on Saturday as a “fixed gear” & only got about a mile from my house before I ate crap & broke my collarbone. Whoops! I was going about 20mph & binnyhopped up onto a median while crossing the road. I bunny hopped up onto the median wtih no problem. Bue when I landed, I forgot for a split second (big mistake!) that I was on a fixed gear. So when I went to compress a bit & coast across the median, the cranks (which are ALWAYS in motion on a fixed gear) spun around & flipped me clear over the bars. Right into the street. The crash was HUGE.
Luckily no cars ran me over. I immediately got up & tried to catch my bike that was bouncing down the street. I knew right then & their that I broke my collarbone. I knocked my head pretty good as well. So I hopped back on my bike & scurried behind a building & called Javier & he picked me up & took me to the hospital. And sure enough, it was broke. I knew it. Pics above of my X-ray & me chillin’ in the waiting room. Check the collarbone. It used to be in one piece. Now it’s in two. Anyways…
I am in Philly now for a quick work week. And yeah, it wasn’t the most comfortable red-eye flight last night with a broken collarbone. But it wasn’t too bad. It actually doesn’t hurt too bad. Either that, or I’ve got too much other stuff on my brain to worry about it….
