Fixed Gear Street Riding!?

Journal

Now before I even go into this, let me tell you that for ME, riding a Fixed Gear bike is not my thing. If you recall, I broke my collarbone last year about 8 minutes into my first ride on one. Ha ha. But for reals, I did. So I ride my 700c SINGLE SPEED bike as just that: A SINGLE SPEED. Meaning with freewheel & brakes. ‘Cause that’s the most fun & comfortable way for me to ride.

Ok, so peep the pics below from this past weekend. We did a photoshoot with one of our Fixed Gear Freestyle riders, SOAP. He’s a bad ass. But I wouldn’t really call his riding “Fixed Gear Freestyle.” More like Fixed Gear Street Riding. If you’ve seen some of the online videos of Fixed Gear riders, some of them are doing what appears to be early 80′s flatland tricks. And some of them are doing some cool, complex rad shit. And very few, like SOAP, are doing full-on street tricks. Yes, there is definitely a limit as the bike has giant wheels & no freewheel. But in my opinion, it’s still cool. Yeah, it’s not a BMX bike he’s riding. But he’s got mad BMX style the way he rides. Oh, and he IS riding a PK Ripper Fixed Gear bike with Landing Gear forks. So that is cool in it’s own right.
