I will be the first to admit: I never really cared about bikes when I was growing up. SURE, I loved to ride them, race them, & jump them. BMX was & still is my life. But I never really cared about the bike itself. I wasn’t the guy who always had a clean & shiny bike. I wasn’t the guy who had all of the newest & baddest parts. I wasn’t the guy that “had” to have a bike with a certain geometry. I was just the guy who wanted a bike to ride.
It didn’t matter what I rode over the years or who sponsored me with which product. All’s I wanted was a bike to ride. And obviously, over the years, I ALWAYS had a bike to ride. But now, it’s a bit different. It’s my job to care about what I ride & how it looks. Well, OK, I still don’t clean my bikes very often. Ha ha. But seeing as all of the15 of the bikes that I currently own are bikes that “I” designed, I now take a bit more pride in what I ride. I now open a bike box with great excitement. I now get all giddy when I am putting the bike together. I now like to show off my rides.
Take the bike below as an example. This is the 26″ DC Quadangle Looptail that I spec’ed & designed. I built this up the other day in the front of my house. THIS is the only one of two of these bikes in the whole USA. DC Shoes has the other one. You should see the smile on my face when I ride this down the street. BMX -It’s still in my blood.
